A New Saloon in a Building with Over a Century of History

Pumpjack Saloon is a Wood-Fired Bar & Grill and Live Music Venue, located in the heart of downtown Colorado City, Texas. We are located on the corner of 2nd and Walnut, inside a building that has stood since 1884.

Colorado City was once the wildest cattle town between Fort Worth and El Paso. In the 1880s, more than two dozen saloons lined these streets, cowboys packed the bars after driving herds to the railhead, and the town earned its nickname as the Mother City of West Texas. When the cattle era faded, oil brought the next boom, and the pumpjacks started bobbing across Mitchell County - a sight that still defines this landscape today. Our name comes from that heritage. So does our attitude.

Our building spent decades as the Colorado Drug, a downtown fixture where locals came for medicine, conversation, and the occasional cigar. The old Coca-Cola sign on the exterior has been a backdrop for photographs going back generations. The building also carries a darker piece of history: in 1916, Dr. N.J. Phenix, one of the most respected physicians in West Texas, was shot five times just inside the side door facing Walnut Street. When we peeled back the old tile at that same doorway during renovation, we uncovered what appear to be two of the original bullet holes still in the wood floor. We have heard the ghost stories from locals who spent time here over the years. So far, the doctor seems to approve of what we are doing.

We took that history and built something new inside it. Two bars. Two stages. A 20-foot dance floor. A kitchen powered by a custom J&R Manufacturing Wood-Show Grill and an Oyler 700 E Rotisserie Pit Smoker turning out hand-cut steaks, slow-smoked barbecue, and everything in between. Pumpjack Saloon is where West Texas history meets Wood-Fired food, cold beer, and live music - and we would not have it any other way.

Our Community

Pumpjack Saloon is woman owned and veteran-owned, and we believe in showing up for the community that welcomed us.

We are not just opening a restaurant. We are investing in a town that deserves great things happening in it. Colorado City gave us a home, and we intend to give back every chance we get.

Stop on in and have a look around. History abounds. Nostalgia is evident in the historic photos of our building, the downtown, and the local area that grace our walls. We feel the old memories should be cherished, while new memories are being made.
